ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service (EPS) is advising the public that a door-to-door salesperson is currently operating within the Energy City.
According to the EPS, the salesperson is participating in the Southwestern Advantage Summer Program and has obtained a valid City of Estevan business licence, authorizing the individual to conduct business within city limits.
Residents might see representatives from the program canvassing neighbourhoods over the coming weeks, the EPS said. As always, members of the public are encouraged to use their discretion when engaging with door-to-door salespeople, and should request identification and to see the city licence if people have any concerns.
Anyone who encounters suspicious activity or has concerns regarding door-to-door sales is encouraged to contact the EPS.
In other recent police news, members were dispatched July 29 to a residence for a report of a possible domestic dispute. The EPS said it was determined that a woman was not home at the time, but a man was banging on her door. The 47-year-old man was warned regarding his actions and arrested in relation to an unrelated matter. According to the EPS, he was released on charges of theft and is scheduled to appear in court in September.
Members were dispatched to a trailer park following a report of individuals trespassing. The EPS said two subjects were located and spoken to, and it was determined a miscommunication had occurred between the property manager and the park owner. No criminal offences had occurred and the complainant was updated.
While on patrol, members heard dirt bikes being operated within city limits. Three dirt bikes were located and a traffic stop was attempted, but the EPS said all three riders fled from police and were last seen travelling south on Highway 47. The matter remains under investigation.
A Report Impaired Driver (RID) complaint was received by the EPS, who reported a vague vehicle description and last known direction of travel were provided. Members were unable to locate the vehicle.
A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle leaving a local liquor establishment. A mandatory approved screening device demand was made, and the driver provided a sample of breath. The EPS said a 31-year-old man from Alberta was issued a 72-hour driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for three days.
Police were called to St. Joseph’s Hospital to assist with a patient who was acting aggressively toward staff as they attempted to administer medication. The EPS said the patient had calmed down prior to police arriving on scene and no further police involvement was required.
Police received a report of mischief. The investigation is ongoing and statements are pending.
