REGINA — A new neighbourhood revitalization facility is in the works by Growing Young Movers (GYM).
According to the City of Regina’s proposed development page, GYM plans to transform vacant land in North Central currently owned by the city and 101270241 Saskatchewan Ltd.
According to the development proposal, the facility will be a hub focused on neighbourhood revitalization efforts, including building repairs and upgrades, landscaping improvements, and enhancements to community spaces.
GYM was previously awarded nearly $400,000 in funding from the city to launch a social enterprise.
The enterprise will maintain land bank properties owned by the city, including removing grass and clearing snow.
“The facility will consist of a building and an outdoor storage area, which will serve as a staging area for coordinating and carrying out operations. Most of the related activity will take place off-site – at various properties within the neighbourhood,” notes the proposed development report.
The site is currently under a public and technical review process.
Following the process, the proposal will be viewed by Regina’s executive committee, which would then require final approval by Regina city council.
It’s not clear when GYM intends to open the space.
SaskToday reached out to GYM on multiple occasions for an interview, but received no response.
