AHTAHKAKOOP CREE NATION – Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit is investigating a suspicious death on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) is investigating after human remains were located following a house fire on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.
On July 26 at approximately 7:40 a.m., Ahtahkakoop RCMP responded to a report of a residential fire on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.
During a search of the residence after the fire, the fire scene investigator located human remains.
Subsequent investigation, in coordination with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, has determined the death is suspicious in nature. Investigators continue to work with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to confirm the identity of the deceased.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s HIU now has charge of the investigation. The HIU, part of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch, investigates homicides, suspicious deaths, missing persons where foul play is suspected or likely, and other incidents, as directed.

Police say they are unable to provide additional information about this investigation at this time. Updates will be provided when available. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, police will notify the public.
