REGINA — A new childcare deal has been struck in Regina.
Per a news release on Thursday, CUPE 4449 members struck an agreement with the Glencairn Child Care Co-operative in Regina on Aug. 5.
The new agreement includes enhanced seniority provisions and important wage protections for child-care workers.
One key component of the new deal is wage protection for educators covered by the provincial wage enhancement grant. If the grant were discontinued, impacted workers would receive the same wages until a new wage rate was bargained.
“This bargaining committee worked hard to protect members from the immediate impact of any future changes to the government’s temporary wage enhancement grant,” said Kent Peterson, president of CUPE Saskatchewan.
Peterson also added that members used their collective strength to provide better language and security in a deal at a time when child care workers are facing uncertainty.
CUPE represents 300 child-care union workers in the province and over 12,000 across Canada.
