WEYBURN – The City of Weyburn is seeking community-minded individuals interested in joining the Weyburn Fire Department (WFD) as paid-on-call firefighters or auxiliary members.
With emergency call volumes continuing to grow, WFD is looking to add people who are ready to train, respond and take on a meaningful role in their community.
“We want community members who are ready to challenge themselves, learn new skills and be part of a team that shows up for Weyburn and surrounding area,” said Acting Fire Chief Mike Wock. “You don’t need to come to us with previous firefighting experience. What we’re looking for is commitment, reliability and strong work ethic.”
Paid-on-call members may respond to approximately 225 emergency incidents each year and participate in regular training throughout the year. Firefighters attend Wednesday evening practices and complete WFD’s training program, which includes evening and some weekend commitments.
Previous firefighting experience is not required, although experience or training in areas such as first aid, firefighting, mechanical or construction trades and heavy equipment operation may be considered an asset.
WFD is recruiting for six operations positions and two auxiliary positions. Applications are available at weyburn.ca/fire-department/recruitment and will be accepted until Sept. 13, 2026.
Recruitment timeline:
-Sept. 10: Department information session.
-Sept. 13: Application deadline.
-Sept. 19: Job Skills Assessment.
-Oct. 5-16: Interviews.
Successful candidates are expected to receive employment offers in late October, followed by onboarding and equipment fitting later in the year. Recruit training will begin in January 2027 and continue through July, with training held Wednesday evenings and every other weekend.
Interested applicants are encouraged to review the full applicant package before applying. A current resume must be included with the application.
WFD operates as a composite fire and rescue service made up of chief officers, career firefighters and paid-on-call members.
More information about WFD can be found on the City of Weyburn website.
