PRINCE ALBERT — A fourth Saskatchewan Party MLA has been nominated to run again in the 2028 provincial election.
Alana Ross, MLA for Prince Albert Northcote, was officially chosen at a nomination meeting on Aug. 19. The party said her nomination was by acclamation.
Ross will be seeking a third term representing the constituency she has held since 2020. She currently serves in cabinet as minister of Parks, Culture and Sport and minister responsible for the Status of Women, Tourism Saskatchewan and Francophone Affairs.
“Prince Albert is my home, and representing this community is the honour of my life,” Ross said in a news release. “I will keep working hard every day to earn the trust and support of the people of Northcote.”
Prince Albert Northcote has typically been one of the hardest-fought contests in the province in recent elections between the Saskatchewan Party and NDP. Ross won narrow victories in both the 2020 and 2024 provincial elections.
Ross’s nomination follows on the heels of nominations for Scott Moe in Rosthern-Shellbrook, Ken Cheveldayoff in Saskatoon Willowgrove and Terry Jenson in Warman earlier this year.
The Saskatchewan Party had committed to nominating candidates earlier ahead of the next election and, so far, is living up to that pledge. According to the party, more nominations are on the way.
The party plans to hold a nomination meeting in Saskatoon Chief Mistawasis on Aug. 31, followed by White City-Qu’Appelle on Sept. 9, currently held by Brad Crassweller; Saskatoon Meewasin on Sept. 10; and Saskatchewan Rivers, held by Eric Schmalz, on Sept. 15.
