REGINA, Sask. — A 34-year-old man is facing weapons and drug charges after police seized a loaded firearm, cocaine during a high-risk traffic stop on Tuesday night.
On Aug. 25, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Regina police responded to a report of a weapons offence involving a passenger in a taxi who was believed to be in possession of a firearm and bear spray.
Police located the taxi and conducted a high-risk traffic stop in the 1500 block of Rae Street. A male passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward a nearby residence, where he attempted to gain entry.
A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
A search following the arrest resulted in the seizure of a loaded firearm, cocaine, bear spray, brass knuckles and alcohol.
The 34-year-old man was charged with possession of drugs, careless use of a fiream, two count of possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vheicle, four counts of having a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with a probation order.
He appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 26.
