REGINA, Sask. — The Globe Theatre announced they are receiving a $500,000 donation from the Conexus Credit Union which is intended to support the recent renovation of MacCorquodale Place — The Globe Theatre building.
While the theatre received funding from all levels of government, as well as local businesses and families — MacCorquodales, Ann and Roger Phillips Foundation, Katherine Rawlinson, Trevor and Amanda Boquist, Lisa and Mitch Molnar, Paul and Carol Hill — Heather Ervin, director of engagement at The Globe Theatre, announced that Conexus Credit Union is joining the list of funders.
At the beginning of this year, Conexus Credit Union merged with Cornerstone Credit Union and Synergy Credit Union. While the original trusted financial partner of The Globe Theatre was Cornerstone, the CEO of Conexus Credit Union, Celina Philpot, maintains that she wants to strengthen that business relationship.
"Cornerstone supported [The Globe] when others wouldn't, and that is a cornerstone of the credit unions. We show up when others don't," says Philpot.
Philpot also emphasized that The Globe Theatre is of vital importance to the culture of Regina.
"If this place wasn't here, it would leave a big hole and a gap in our cultural experience in the city," says Philpot.
Executive Director of The Globe Theatre Oz Weaver points out that Cornerstone Credit Union, before the merger of the credit unions, took a "big risk" in funding in The Globe, as they were a much smaller corporate entity at the time. Weaver praises Conexus Credit Union for maintaining Cornerstone's values of art in downtown Regina.
"They still believe in us and they're still working to make this as easy as possible of a process for us," says Weaver.
Prominent political figures attended the announcement, including Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Bernadette McIntyre, as well as MLAs Brent Blakeley and Meara Conway.
