REGINA, Sask. — Years after forming to help those most in need, the Regina Street Team (RST) is no more.
A report for Wednesday’s Regina executive committee has indicated the RST ceased operations as of Tuesday, a decision not made by the City of Regina.
“The city did not make the decision to disband the Regina Street Team,” read the city in a statement.
The RST had been under the Regina Downtown Businesses Improvement District (RDBID) since its formation as a community outreach team back in 2021.
This oversight change followed RDBID indicating the organization had outgrown it beyond its intended scope, leaving the city to determine its next home.
“The city temporarily oversaw operations of the Regina Street Team once it was no longer being operated by the Regina Downtown Business Improvement District in late 2025. The Regina Street Team temporarily moved to the YWCA in March 2026.”
When the move occurred, YWCA Regina indicated they would be a short-term home for the RST until a permanent home was found.
In response to a request from SaskToday, YWCA Regina declined to comment on the decision but said it remains focused on helping those most vulnerable.
“We remain committed to community-based outreach and to a response to houselessness that stays rooted in community, and we are always glad to speak to that broader work.”
Even with the RST departure, a new community outreach team is in the works.
“The city [has] put out a call for applications for a Community Outreach Team Grant in June. This team would fill the role of the Regina Street Team in the community,” said the city.
According to Wednesday's report, a new home for an outreach team has been selected, and the city is working on finalizing an agreement.
The new team is set to receive nearly $400,000 in provincial funding to help with operations.
An official announcement on the team is anticipated this month.
