SASKATOON, Sask. — Twyla River Angel Ahpay is wanted for being unlawfully at large. Ahpay's last known location is Vancouver, B.C., and Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers says she may be heading to Saskatchewan or Alberta.
Ahpay, 25, is serving a sentence of just over three years for aggravated assault, kidnapping, and unlawful confinement stemming from an August 2020 incident in Saskatoon.
According to the Saskatoon Police Service, they arrested five people after a 26-year-old man was held against his will and assaulted at a home in the Riversdale neighbourhood. Officers found the victim zip-tied to a chair and suffering from extensive injuries. Police said the assault was targeted and gang motivated.
The victim was pistol whipped, stabbed 17 times, burned with a meth pipe, beaten with a bottle, and left with gang initials carved into his chest. The assault lasted several hours.
Ahpay’s co-accused, Carolyn (Caroline) Sutherland was also recently wanted for being unlawfully at large. She was arrested in August, and is back in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Sept. 28.
Parole documents indicate Ahpay was a gang member at the time of the assault and was first exposed to street gangs as a child.
“Negative associates have played a significant role in your offence cycle and your propensity to associate with negative peers is related to your Indigenous social history (ISH),” read the parole documents. “During your youth, you were seeking a sense of belonging and you became fully emersed in a substance use lifestyle. You have struggled with general aggression and low frustration tolerance and have a history of using violence. You also struggle with controlling your anger, managing your emotions in a healthy manner, which has led to substance abuse.”
Anyone with information on Ahpay’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip anonymously online.
