ESTEVAN, Sask. — The assault of a delivery driver and an impaired motorist's arrest were among recent calls for the Estevan Police Service (EPS).
Police received a complaint Sept. 4 of an assault and theft on a delivery driver. Members attended the scene and arrested three Estevan men for assault and theft of property. According to the EPS, they were all intoxicated and lodged in cells to be released once sober. Following the conclusion of the investigation, one of the men was charged with assault on the delivery driver.
During the Sept. 5 night shift, a traffic stop for a 21-year old woman driver from Regina resulted in her arrest for impaired driving. The EPS said she provided two breath samples, both with results of .09, and was subsequently charged with impaired driving and operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol level exceeding .08. She was released and will appear in Estevan Provincial Court at a later date to speak to the charges.
In other recent police news, the EPS assisted the Regina Police Service (RPS) on Sept. 3 by conducting an interview for a Criminal Code investigation that is being conducted in their jurisdiction. The EPS said the information will be forwarded to the RPS for their follow-up.
Police received a report of a theft from a local business. The EPS said the matter remains under investigation.
A man that had been detained in EPS cells regarding a theft has also been charged with mischief for damaging property in the cell block while being processed for release, the EPS said. He will appear in Estevan Provincial Court at a later date to speak to the charges.
EPS members attended to a domestic disturbance in which the EPS said one individual reported an assault. The situation was mediated for the night, the EPS said, and the assault report remains under investigation, with additional follow-up required.
A complaint of several youths throwing drinks at vehicles in an east-end business parking lot was received during night shift. The EPS said members attended but the individuals described had left prior to police arrival.
EPS received a complaint Sept. 4 from an individual who was evicted from a residence but still had property. Members mediated the situation, the EPS said, and arranged for the individual to obtain their property. No further police involvement was required.
Police received a parking complaint for a vehicle parked on the wrong side of the street with the driver’s side to the curb. The EPS said members attended and warned the individual to park appropriately.
The EPS reminds the public it is both a bylaw offence to park on the wrong side of the street and an offence under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA) to drive left of centre on a roadway. A conviction for this offence under the TSA would result in demerit points being applied to a driver’s licence. Motorists are cautioned that pulling left of centre at community mailboxes can result in a ticket that will affect their driver's licence safety rating.
A complaint was received of a blue pick-up truck driving erratically in an east-end business parking lot. According to the EPS, passengers were leaning out and grabbing shopping carts and ramming them into light standards. Officers attended and located those involved, warned them regarding their behaviour, and had them clean up the parking lot before being sent on their way. They were directed to go home for the night.
Members responded to an alarm at a business in east Estevan during night shift. The EPS said the business owner was contacted and advised that on-scene security cameras did not show anything criminal occurring. Patrol officers attended and confirmed that the building was secure and no further involvement was required.
A report of a lost LG phone was received during the Sept. 5 day shift. The EPS said anyone finding a similar device can drop it off at the police station to be returned to its owner.
Police received a report of someone failing to remain at the scene of a collision in which property damage occurred. The EPS said the suspect vehicle was identified via surveillance video and the matter remains under investigation.
The EPS received a report of individuals contacting the employer of an assault victim and asking them to direct the victim to drop the assault charges. The matter is under investigation.
During a walk-through at a local bar, patrol members located an Estevan man who is on court-ordered conditions not to be in a liquor establishment. The EPS said he was arrested, charged with breaching his release conditions and subsequently released with a future court date to speak to the charge.
Police were called to the Hillside area regarding a disturbance or fight in the street. On arrival, the EPS said members determined that the altercation was related to a missing cell phone that was subsequently located and returned to the owner. No further police involvement was required.
A well-being check was conducted Sept. 6 on a woman who was reported to have been kicked out of a vehicle near Weyburn the previous night. The EPS said members located the woman and determined that she was safe and well.
A complaint of criminal harassment was received and the EPS said it remains under investigation.
Police received a report of three vehicles doing donuts in the parking lot at Lynn Prime Park. Police attended immediately following the complaint but the vehicles were no longer on-scene. Damage to the parking lot and grass were observed and the EPS is investigating the matter as a wilful damage to property.
EPS received a report of a vehicle doing a “burnout” in the city centre area during night shift. A vehicle matching the description was located a short time later, the EPS said, and the driver was issued a warning.
A Sept. 7 complaint of an online scam involving Facebook Marketplace is being investigated. According to the EPS, the victim provided several hundred dollars to purchase meat products but did not receive the items. The matter remains under investigation.
EPS members attended to a domestic disturbance in the Centennial area during the day shift. The matter was determined to be a verbal disagreement between spouses and police mediated a temporary resolution, with one of the parties agreeing to leave for several days.
A 911 call in which a woman could be heard yelling and running in the background was investigated during the day shift. The caller did not respond to attempts by the dispatcher to speak with her over several minutes. The EPS said she was located and determined to not be in need of assistance, however was unable to explain the source of the noises heard during the 911 call.
Staff at a city centre restaurant requested EPS conduct a well-being check on a man in their parking lot. The EPS said an intoxicated person matching the description was located a short distance away and provided a ride to his residence to ensure his safety.
