REGINA – A man is facing charges following a stolen vehicle investigation, Regina Police Service report.
On Sept. 5 at approximately 1:30 a.m., an officer with the Regina Police Service Canine Unit was patrolling in the area of 1st Avenue North and Broad Street in Regina when he observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen.
The officer attempted a traffic stop but the driver evaded police and sped way.
The Aerial Support Unit (ASU) was notified and quickly got eyes on the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was observed travelling at speeds of up to 140 km/h as
it drove through the city. Officers on the ground did not pursue the vehicle.
ASU tracked the suspect vehicle until it came to a stop in the area of Regency Crescent. ASU directed officers on the ground to the location.
Following a short foot pursuit, the driver was taken into custody without further incident.
Subsequent to the arrest, officers searched the suspect and seized two knives and one can of bear spray.
As a result of this investigation, a 52 year-old man is charged with:
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
• Fail to comply with condition of a release order;
• Flight from a peace officer; and
• Operate conveyance dangerous to public.
The accused made his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court on Sept. 8.
