REGINA, Sask. — According to the latest data released today by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, housing starts in Saskatchewan saw growth of 65.5 per cent in August 2026 compared to August 2025.
The province has now ranked either first or second nationally for year-over-year housing start growth for three consecutive months, according to Sask. Trade and Export Development.
Housing starts with multiple units increased by 116.7 per cent between August 2025 and August 2026.
Housing starts are a measure of the number of new housing builds where construction has begun.
Statistics Canada's latest Gross Domestic Product numbers indicate that Saskatchewan's 2025 real GDP reached $85.4 billion. This was an increase of 2.2 per cent.
Private capital investment in Saskatchewan increased last year by 12 per cent to $13.6 billion, ranking first among provinces.
