WEYBURN, Sask. — A man who was arrested in B.C. recently on eight Canada-wide warrants out of Saskatchewan made a video appearance in Weyburn Provincial Court on Sept. 22.
Emmanuel Enocent Dario, 36, said he wants to represent himself in court, as he recently parted ways with his lawyer, he doesn't have the funds to hire a new attorney and he doesn't want Legal Aid.
The federal Crown said it was opposed to Dario's release.
Dario told the court he has been "demonized" in the community and all over the media, so it will make it harder for him to get out of custody on bail.
Dario has matters in the Court of King's Bench on Oct. 6 in Estevan. His next appearance in Weyburn Provincial Court will be Oct. 15. He remains in custody.
Background: Dario was wanted on eight Canada-wide warrants out of Estevan when he was arrested by Metro Vancouver Transit Police.
On Aug. 27, shortly after 8 p.m., officers from the Transit Police Targeted Mobile Enforcement Team were conducting impaired driving enforcement in Surrey when they encountered Dario, who was wanted on:
-Two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking a controlled substance;
-Two counts of failing to comply with release order;
-Two counts of failing to attend court;
-One count of possession of property obtained by crime; and
-One count of obstruct a peace officer.
