Saskatchewan’s biggest crop commissions will not see any director elections this fall. All the open positions have been filled by acclamation.
Sask Oilseeds, Sask Wheat and Sask Pulse Growers are the three largest crop commissions and usually one or more of them have an election for open director positions at this time of year. This year, all three received the same number of eligible nominations as they had open positions.
At Sask Oilseeds, which covers both canola and flax, four directors have been acclaimed. Three were returning directors seeking a new term. The only new face is Kaitlin Lake of Abernethy.
At Sask Wheat, four directors were acclaimed with two fresh faces – Malcolm Carnegie of Creelman and Emily Saunders of Borden.
At Sask Pulse Growers, three directors were acclaimed with the only new director being Rob Rigetti of Moose Jaw.
New directors take their positions following the annual meetings held in January.
It saves the commissions money and hassle when elections are not required, but it would be healthy to see more producers interested in directorships. There are also commissions collecting check-off dollars for barley, oats, mustard and Canary seed and sometimes those commissions find it difficult to even fill their slate of directors.
