REGINA, Sask. — To celebrate 40 years of operation, Planned Parenthood Regina (PPR) will be hosting an event, the “Megan Nash Birthday Bash.”
The event takes place on Oct. 9, and features Saskatchewan-based singer-songwriter Megan Nash and her band, the Best of Intentions, at the Artesian on 13th Avenue. Tickets will be available for $40 for the anniversary occasion and proceeds will help raise funds for PPR’s operations.
Since 1986, Planned Parenthood Regina has provided sexual health services and education to residents of Regina and the broader Saskatchewan community. PPR says its mission is to provide accessible and confidential sexual health services to clients in Regina and surrounding areas with a priority focus on youth. This celebration is an acknowledgement of the work that PPR has done in the community over the last 40 years, and a campaign toward 40 more, organizers say.
PPR has recently had to suspend clinical services. Without a full time nurse practitioner on staff for over three years, PPR says it’s been difficult to meet the rising demand for services while still offering an adequate level of care.
PPR says, there has been a growing need for access to services and staff the organization has been working to meet the demand, but it’s become unsustainable to continue serving the community until the vacant full-time nurse practitioner role can be filled.
“We are being deliberate in taking the time to pause and reflect, reorganize and set ourselves up in a sustainable way so that pauses like this will not occur again in the future. Chair of the board, Brit Sippola, acknowledged the timing of the event.
“We understand that it’s difficult to want to support us during our pause on services, but next steps include recruiting a full-time nurse practitioner to lead the clinic. Supporting our event, and celebrating all the work we’ve done in the past 40 years, is a great way to help us make the next 40 the best we can.”
