Flin Flon was the centre of the SJHL hockey universe this weekend as the Bombers celebrated 100 years of hockey and welcomed a new group into the league’s Hall of Fame.
The 1992-93 championship Bombers were inducted as a team, along with Larry Feszczyn, Rob Beck, Tim Madarash, longtime Bombers broadcaster Rob Hart and former coach Mike Reagan.
The celebration came one night after Flin Flon raised its 2026 SJHL championship banner, marking the franchise’s first league title in 33 years.
And improving to 2-0 with a home ice win doesn’t hurt.
Wolverine Resurgence
The Warman Wolverines are off to a strong start in the SJHL, sitting at 4-1 and atop the league standings after a four-game winning streak.
After erasing an early two-goal deficit to beat Nipawin 5-4 Friday, Warman blanked the Battlefords North Stars 4-0 in North Battleford on Sunday.
Owen Parks scored just 50 seconds into the game, Riley Rich-Holden added two goals and an assist, and Trey Markus chipped in a single. Luke Brunen was outstanding between the pipes, stopping all 41 shots for the shutout.
It’s an impressive resurgence for the Wolverines, who are quickly establishing themselves as a team to watch early this season.
Weyburn Sweeps Rivalry
The Weyburn Red Wings owned Highway 39 this weekend.
After an 8-5 win over Estevan on Friday, Weyburn completed the sweep Saturday with a 5-3 victory in Estevan.
Jase McNichol scored twice Friday, while seven different Red Wings recorded multi-point games.
On Saturday, Weyburn’s power play did the damage, scoring four times, with Dion Schraeder picking up three assists.
The Wings have now won three straight after opening the season with a loss to Melville.
Goals, goals and more goals
Offence was everywhere across the SJHL this weekend.
Friday’s six games produced 40 goals, including Weyburn’s eight-goal outburst and five-goal performances from both Humboldt and Warman.
Saturday brought another 24 goals in four games, highlighted by Kindersley’s 7-3 win over Yorkton and Battlefords’ 5-4 overtime victory over Humboldt.
And with 4 more goals on Sunday in North Battleford, that puts the weekend total at 68 goals throughout the weekend, an average of just under seven goals per game.
