REGINA, Sask. — A 31-year-old man and a 14-year-old male youth are facing numerous weapons related charges following an investigation involving a stolen vehicle.
At approximately 1:50 p.m. Sept. 26, Regina police officers were dispatched to the 4400 block of 4th Avenue following the report of a stolen vehicle. The caller indicated they had located the stolen vehicle in a parking lot with two individuals inside. Before officers arrived, the vehicle left the area.
A short time later, officers located the stolen vehicle in a nearby residential neighbourhood and observed the two suspects exit the vehicle. When officers attempted to approach the suspects, both failed to comply with police commands and fled on foot. A Police Service Dog (PSD) was deployed and successfully apprehended one of the suspects. EMS transported him to hospital with injuries consistent with a dog bite. The second suspect was arrested without further incident.
Through investigation, officers learned the suspects had bags in their possession a short time before being arrested. A search of the area, which included members of the Canine Unit, resulted in the location and seizure of two bags which contained two loaded firearms.
The man and youth were charged with possession of property obtained by crime valued over $5,000, two counts each of carless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, and unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a vehicle.
They both appeared in Regina court on Sept. 28.
