REGINA, Sask. — A woman was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle Thursday morning at Albert Street and Seventh Avenue, directly in front of the Regina Urgent Care Centre.
The Regina Police Service says officers were called to the intersection at about 7:55 a.m. after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been hit.
Police say EMS transported the woman to hospital with what appeared to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
There was a large police presence at the scene, where officers were investigating a damaged vehicle.
The collision comes as Regina has now seen 13 collisions involving vehicles and pedestrians, cyclists or e-bike riders in less than two weeks.
The Regina Police Service had previously reported 10 such collisions over a 10-day period. Police say three additional collisions involving pedestrians or cyclists were reported in the past 24 hours, including two involving cyclists Wednesday and Thursday morning’s collision involving the pedestrian.
Chief Lorilee Davies said investigators have not identified a single pattern behind the crashes and have not linked the trend to impaired or distracted driving.
Davies emphasized that everyone has a role in preventing collisions.
“We can’t just assume that the other user of the roadways will be following the rules… Everyone using the road needs to remain fully engaged,” Davies said.
The investigation into Thursday morning’s collision remains ongoing.
Police have not released further information about the circumstances leading up to the crash.
