MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Moose Jaw campus is replacing aging electrical and mechanical infrastructure through a two-phase project designed to make essential equipment easier to maintain and repair.
The first phase focuses on electrical upgrades and is expected to be completed this fall. Mechanical upgrades are expected to follow in 2027.
According to the project notice, the campus’s original electrical infrastructure was installed in the 1950s, and replacement parts for that equipment are now obsolete.
Newly installed switchgear includes remote monitoring capabilities and built-in temperature monitoring. These features are intended to reduce maintenance requirements and the need for third-party thermal imaging inspections, while helping limit downtime.
The notice reports little to no impact on students and faculty during the electrical work.
Alliance Energy Ltd. is handling the first phase. A general contractor for the mechanical upgrades has not yet been selected.
