One of the biggest trades in the last number of years in the SJHL is already producing results.
Leo Seitz made an immediate impact after joining Humboldt from Flin Flon, scoring the game-winner and adding an assist in the Broncos’ 3-1 victory over Melville on Friday.
Connor Miller, who was sent to the Bombers at last season’s trade deadline before returning to Humboldt in the off-season, also had a two-point night. Brady Holtvogt stopped 36 shots for his second straight win since returning to the SJHL from the WHL.
Wolverines refuse to go away
The Warman Wolverines continue to show plenty of fight near the top of the SJHL standings.
Warman erased a four-goal deficit Friday against Melfort to force overtime and secure a point before falling 6-5 in the shootout. The Wolverines did it again Saturday, rallying to send the Mustangs to overtime before Melfort once again prevailed in the skills competition.
Dru Mushumanski led Melfort with a five-point performance Friday, while Trey Markus had two points for Warman. Luke MacKenzie scored the lone shootout goal Friday, with Tristin Ziola doing the same Saturday.
Two shootout losses may not look great in the standings, but the Wolverines have points in six straight, including four of those on the road.
Hawks, Bruins finally break through
It was a weekend of firsts for Nipawin and Estevan, as both clubs finally picked up their first victories of the season.
The Hawks got into the win column Friday in Weyburn, jumping out to a three-goal first period before beating the Red Wings 5-2.
Karkochuk added two more goals Saturday, but the Hawks dropped a decision to Estevan.
That result gave the Bruins their first victory of the season. Drew Beasley and Steven Steranka each scored twice and added an assist, while Lochlan Tetarenko recorded three points. Seven different Estevan players finished with multi-point games.
Fans showing up
The early attendance numbers are another encouraging sign around the SJHL.
Through the first 35 regular-season games of the 2026-27 campaign, the league has drawn 26,529 fans, averaging 758 per game.
Flin Flon currently leads the league at 1,207 fans per game, although the Bombers have only hosted once. Yorkton is second at 1,107, followed by Estevan at 939 and Melville at 887.
The Millionaires have already welcomed 3,548 fans through four home games, including 856 for their most recent contest.
With the season still in its early stages, the league-wide average of 758 per game is a solid starting point, and those numbers should only become more meaningful as the playoff races heat up.
