LLOYDMINSTER, Alta., Sask. — The Lloydminster Comprehensive High School was placed under lockdown around 11:07 a.m. on Oct. 7 after reports of a possible firearm at the school.
Lloydminster RCMP officers responded, secured the area, and arrested a suspect without incident. From the time the initial 911 call was received until the suspect was safely in custody, the incident was resolved within nine minutes, say police.
As the individual involved is a youth, no identifying information can be released.
Following a thorough investigation, officers determined that no firearm or other weapon was found to be involved in the incident.
Police are taking this threat and all other incidents seriously and continue to investigate.
"Lloydminster RCMP recognize that reports of firearms or violence in a school can be traumatic for students, staff, parents, and the broader community," said Sgt. Christopher Byford of the Lloydminster RCMP. "We would like to acknowledge the professionalism and preparedness demonstrated by the staff at Lloydminster Comprehensive High School. The school's training and emergency response procedures were implemented quickly and effectively, contributing to the safe resolution of this incident."
Lloydminster RCMP would like to thank the school administration, staff, students, and responding emergency personnel for their cooperation during police response and ongoing investigation.
