The Warman Wolverines remain on top of the latest SJHL Power Rankings, and Wednesday’s results only strengthened their position.
Warman picked up another win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Wednesday, continuing what has been an impressive start to the season. The Wolverines have been one of the league’s most consistent teams early on, and their ability to find ways to win has them sitting first in the rankings.
The Flin Flon Bombers remain second, with the Humboldt Broncos third.
The Melfort Mustangs are fourth after dropping a home game to the Weyburn Red Wings on Wednesday. Melfort had been one of the league’s hottest teams after winning three straight, including back-to-back shootout victories over Warman, but Weyburn’s win puts a little more separation into the middle of the rankings.
Weyburn moves into fifth, while the Melville Millionaires remain sixth.
Melville continues to stand out defensively, allowing just 14 goals through its first seven games, tied for the fewest in the SJHL. The Millionaires have received strong goaltending from Noah Kraus and have already picked up wins over teams near the top of the rankings. Their challenge will be generating more offence as the season moves along.
The Kindersley Klippers are seventh, followed by the Yorkton Terriers at number eight.
Yorkton has shown a major home-ice advantage early in the season, but its road record has been more inconsistent. That will be tested again this weekend when the Terriers host Melville in the traditional Thanksgiving home-and-home rivalry.
The Battlefords North Stars sit ninth, followed by the Nipawin Hawks at number ten. Nipawin picked up another home victory over Estevan on Wednesday, giving the Hawks a 2-0 record on home ice.
The Estevan Bruins are 11th, while the La Ronge Ice Wolves round out the rankings at number 12.
