REGINA, Sask. —Three people are facing fraud and dangerous driving charges following a months-long investigation into a vehicle collision that police say was deliberately staged.
The investigation was conducted by multiple Regina Police Service Units and the SGI Special Investigations Unit.
At approximately 9 p.m. on Jan. 4, police were dispatched to the intersection of 9thAvenue North and Pinkie Road following a report of a two-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles involved in a head-on collision. The four occupants involved in the collision, consisting of a driver and passenger from each vehicle, remained at the scene and were assessed by EMS. All four were transported to hospital with, what appeared to be, serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles sustained significant damage.
Several months later, SGI notified the Regina Police Service of evidence indicating the collision may have been intentionally staged. An investigation was launched involving the SGI Special Investigators Unit and members of the Regina Police Service’s Investigative Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team (*ICART), Forensic Identification Unit and Technological Crime Unit. Through the course of the investigation, investigators determined the collision had been deliberately staged.
On Sept. 9, three of the four occupants of the vehicles were arrested.
Sukhveer Kaur, 23, is charged with fraud over $5,000. Akashdeep Singh, 24, and Gagandeep Singh, 26, are charged with fraud over $5,000, and three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
All three made their first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court on Sept. 10.
