MILESTONE, Sask. — The Saskatchewan RCMP is investigating a collision near Milestone that left one person dead.
According to a Saskatchewan RCMP news release, on Oct. 9 at approximately 9:50 a.m., the Milestone RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision near the junction of Highways 39 and 710.
The RCMP said an investigation determined a semi and SUV collided. The driver and sole occupant of the SUV was declared dead by EMS at the scene, the RCMP said. She has been identified as an 86-year-old woman from Milestone. Her family has been notified.
The driver and sole occupant of the semi was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries the RCMP said were described as non-life-threatening in nature.
Highway 39 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
Milestone RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
The RCMP said that as of Oct. 9 at 2 p.m., there have been 73 fatal collisions with 88 fatalities on roadways policed by the Saskatchewan RCMP this year.
