SASKATCHEWAN — A couple of weather alerts are in effect in Saskatchewan at the start of the Thanksgiving long weekend.
A rainfall warning has been issued by Environment Canada for roughly a dozen areas in northern Saskatchewan. It states total amounts of 40-60 millimetres are expected.
"Rain will continue through the day today [Oct. 10], and will at times be mixed with wet snow. Rain will change over to snow tonight and end before Sunday morning [Oct. 11]," the warning states.
Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Local utility outages are possible.
Meanwhile, a special weather statement is in effect for four RMs in southwest Saskatchewan. It states snow is possible over higher terrain of the Cypress Hills Oct. 11.
"A passing cold front will bring northerly winds and a chance of snow to the higher terrain of the Cypress Hills on Sunday," the alert said.
Accumulations of up to five centimetres might be possible, the advisory said.
Heading into the week, a more significant low-pressure system will develop in Montana on Oct. 11 and could spread accumulating snow across the region into the following day. This system might bring as much as five to 10 centimetres of snow to areas south of the Trans-Canada Highway in southwestern Saskatchewan, but confidence on the strength and location of this snow is still low.
SaskToday will have updates as they become available.
