The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released American receiver Shemar Bridges.
Bridges signed with the Roughriders on Aug. 25 after spending the first three seasons of his CFL career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He appeared in three games with Saskatchewan, recording five receptions for 33 yards on 15 targets.
The 28-year-old averaged 6.6 yards per reception and did not score a touchdown with the Riders.
Bridges joined Saskatchewan as the team dealt with injuries in its receiving corps. The six-foot-four, 208-pound receiver arrived after a 30-16 loss to the B.C. Lions game in which Samuel Emilus and Johnny Johnson both left with injuries.
Bridges arrived in Saskatchewan with a strong CFL résumé, having earned East Division Most Outstanding Rookie honours in 2024 with Hamilton. He caught 83 passes for 933 yards and four touchdowns in 15 regular-season games that year, earning an East Division All-CFL selection.
His production declined in 2025, when he recorded 34 receptions for 361 yards and two touchdowns in 18 games with the Tiger-Cats. He also caught four passes for 33 yards and a touchdown in Hamilton’s Eastern Final appearance.
Before entering the CFL, Bridges signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft. He played college football at Fort Valley State University, finishing his career with 92 receptions for 1,358 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games.
Bridges is now a free agent following his release from Saskatchewan.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are back in action on Saturday when they host the Montreal Alouettes. You can catch the game on the 620 CKRM Rider Broadcast Network starting at 10 a.m.
