REGINA, Sask. — For most students, earning the University of Regina’s Chancellor’s Scholarship is a remarkable achievement. For Farrah and Finn Low, it became something even more special: a milestone they now share as siblings and as students at the Hill Levene School of Business.
The Chancellor’s Scholarship, created through the generosity of donors in the Chancellor’s Community, recognizes outstanding students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement. Each year, only 14 undergraduate domestic students receive the scholarship, which requires a minimum admission average of 95 per cent (90 per cent for out-of-province students). Recipients receive $10,000 per year for up to four years, along with on-campus housing for their first year, an academic mentor, and leadership programming.
Scholarships look at more than just grades; they also value leadership, volunteering, and community involvement. Most importantly, believe in yourself and apply; you never know what opportunities might come your way. — Farrah Low, Chancellor's Scholarship recipient, Hill Levene School of Business, University of Regina
Farrah, part of the inaugural cohort of Chancellor’s Scholars, received the scholarship for the 2024–25 academic year. Two years later, Finn received it for 2026–27, making them the first sibling duo to receive the prestigious award.
For Farrah, the news came as a surprise. “I got the call during the school day, and all I could think of for days was how the course of the rest of my life was changed by this one call,” said Farrah.
When Finn received the scholarship two years later, the moment was just as meaningful for their family.
“It was an incredibly proud moment for our family, and knowing how happy it made our parents is something I'll always remember,” said Finn.
“We even joked to my mom about getting her a hoodie that said ‘Chancellor Mom x2,’” says Farrah.
From community to opportunity
For both siblings, the path to the Chancellor’s Scholarship was about more than academics.
Growing up in a small town, Farrah was involved in school activities, community events, sports, and volunteering. “In a close-knit community, you quickly learn the value of supporting one another and working together toward common goals,” said Farrah.
Finn found similar lessons through a wide range of experiences in high school. He played basketball, football, hockey, volleyball, and baseball, served as captain of his hockey team, and was involved in student and school-division leadership. He also volunteered in his community and attended the Canadian Student Leadership Conference, where he connected with student leaders from across the country.
“Sports and leadership shaped who I became just as much as academics did,” said Finn.
Both siblings also understand the importance of taking opportunities, even when the outcome is uncertain. Farrah remembers questioning whether she was qualified enough to receive the Chancellor’s Scholarship while completing her application, while Finn had worked toward the scholarship throughout high school without imagining that both siblings would ultimately receive it.
“Looking back, I’m glad I didn’t let those doubts stop me from applying,” said Farrah. Their advice to future scholarship applicants is similar: get involved and take opportunities.
“The biggest piece of advice I can give is to be authentic,” said Finn. “Don't get involved because you think it'll look good on an application—do it because you care.”
Finding their place at Hill Levene
When choosing the U of R, Farrah was drawn to the Hill Levene School of Business for its academic program and the opportunities to get involved beyond the classroom. She was particularly interested in the business clubs and Co-op program as ways to complement her academic learning with additional experiences.
At Hill Levene, she has found a community of students who share her passion for business.
Her favourite part of the experience so far? “Meeting like-minded people who share the same passion for business,” said Farrah.
Although Farrah and Finn are often told they look like twins, their approaches to business are quite different.
Farrah describes herself as more creative and problem-solving oriented, while Finn is more logical and analytical. Those differences have become a source of inspiration for both siblings.
“I think we motivate and inspire each other through our conversations, where we're able to appreciate and learn from each other's unique perspectives,” said Farrah.
For Finn, having Farrah as an older sister has also shaped his journey. She supported him throughout high school, from choosing classes and preparing for university to navigating new experiences.
“She introduced me to student leadership opportunities, and after getting involved, I discovered how much I enjoyed making a difference in my school,” said Finn.
Building a future in business
While their paths may look different, both siblings are excited about where a business education can take them.
Farrah hopes to eventually take on a senior leadership role at a Canadian company, with the goal of becoming a chief marketing officer and leading marketing strategy toward collective goals.
Finn hopes to build a career in business while continuing to develop as a leader. He is excited by the opportunity to travel, meet people from different countries, and learn from new ideas and perspectives.
“Business interests me because it's constantly evolving,” said Finn. “I want to be part of creating solutions, building meaningful relationships, and making a positive impact through whatever path I choose.”
The scholarship supports Together, We Learn, a priority in the University of Regina’s 2026–2035 strategic plan, Together, We Serve, through academic mentoring and leadership programming that bring each cohort of recipients together.
For the siblings, their Chancellor’s Scholarships mark two individual achievements—but also a shared beginning.
Their U of R journeys will take them in their own directions, while the lessons, encouragement, and support they gain from each other remain a constant along the way.
