REGINA, Sask. — Bargaining between CUPE 650 and Regina Public Schools has stalled, according to CUPE's Oct. 21 media release, as two sides remain apart on monetary issues.
“Our members are responsible for maintaining more square footage and supporting increasingly busy schools, but our wages have not kept pace with inflation,” said Dan Berube, president of CUPE 650. “What the employer has put forward does not reflect the rising costs our members are facing.”
Neither CUPE 650 nor the employer has declared an impasse with the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board.
The two sides are scheduled to return to the bargaining table on Nov. 26, according to CUPE.
“Our members do important work every day to keep Regina schools clean, safe, and running,” said Berube. “We deserve a fair agreement that recognizes the work we do and the increased demands of the job. We’re ready to get back to the table and reach that agreement.”
CUPE 650 represents nearly 200 caretaking and maintenance staff in Regina Public Schools.
