REGINA, Sask. — Three large, black fire pits used for winter community events in Regina's Warehouse District have gone missing, and the district is hoping for their return before winter arrives.
In a social media post, Regina's Warehouse Business Improvement District (RWBID) said the heavy fire pits were last seen at The Yards along Dewdney Avenue on Sept. 11.
RWBID executive director Pam Malach said the fire pits were originally built for the February Frost Festival, but the Warehouse District has found them useful throughout the winter season. The district uses the pits “for special community events, gatherings, and so on.”
The fire pits require a permit to use because of their large size.
“They were built by SIAST [Saskatchewan Polytechnic now] — a group of talented students built them,” said Malach.
“They’ve really become a treasured piece of art now.”
Malach said the social media post about the missing fire pits has prompted considerable concern and empathy from the public.
“We certainly appreciate everyone’s invested interest in helping to bring them back,” said Malach.
Malach hopes she won’t have to report the missing fire pits to police, but said she likely will have to as winter approaches.
