REGINA, Sask. — Local artists are showcasing their work at the Aurora Art Guild's fall art show, giving Regina residents an opportunity to explore and purchase original artwork while meeting the artists behind it.
The show opened Oct. 22 at the Terrace Rotunda at Innovation Place, near the University of Regina, and runs until Saturday, Oct. 24.
Visitors can meet the artists from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. A draw for a $100 certificate toward the purchase of a painting at the show will take place at 3 p.m.
The guild is made up entirely of local artists and holds two shows each year, one in the fall and one in the spring.
Regina artist Kathy Hancock has contributed to the show for the past five years.
“To some it’s considered a major event. People sometimes come every year — to both shows — which is just lovely. So, we get to know our customers,” Hancock said.
Ann Noble, another artist featured in the show, taught art in Regina for 18 years and has been painting for as long as she can remember.
Noble said she appreciates opportunities to exhibit and potentially sell her work.
“Saskatchewan as a whole has a tremendous support for the arts — all of the strands of the arts — not just the visual arts,” Noble said.
Noble said her work has shifted away from realism and toward collage-making, an approach that gives her more room to experiment.
“It’s fun to do. It’s messy. It’s a lot of chopping and cutting and sometimes you never know what you’re going to get,” Noble said.
