REGINA, Sask. — The RCMP Heritage Centre is hosting its second annual Mini Monster Mash, inviting families to take part in several free activities at the centre from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
While admission to the centre is free, museum admission is available at half price. RCMP Heritage Centre CEO Sam Karikas says the event is a great way to introduce families to the facility.
“Museums are always tailored to younger people, and so these events allow us to introduce the museum to families in the community to come learn more about what we have to offer,” said Karikas.
This year’s special theme is “We All Scream for Ice Cream.” Karikas says the event typically draws a good crowd, with activities designed for children of all ages.
“We have Halloween activities like a scavenger hunt and a couple creepy crafts, and we also have a free Halloween movie at 1 p.m. — both days. On Saturday it’s Hocus Pocus and on Sunday it’s Casper,” said Karikas.
Karikas says the event gives families looking for alternatives to trick-or-treating another opportunity to celebrate Halloween and get more use out of their costumes.
“Costumes are expensive and [Halloween] goes by so quickly so this is just a way to extend that fun and that whimsy a few extra days,” said Karikas.
Karikas adds that on Oct. 31, the centre will hand out candy to children who arrive in costume.
