The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has announced its roster for the third annual Western All-Star Challenge, set for November 3 and 4 at the Martensville Recreation Centre.
The event will see 20 of the SJHL’s top young players take on their Manitoba Junior Hockey League counterparts in a pair of games, with players born in 2008 or later eligible for selection.
The Weyburn Red Wings and Flin Flon Bombers lead the way with four players each. The Humboldt Broncos, Melville Millionaires, Melfort Mustangs, Nipawin Hawks and Warman Wolverines each have two selections, while the Kindersley Klippers and Yorkton Terriers have one representative apiece.
Several players are putting together impressive starts to the 2026-27 season. Weyburn forward Ryan Gibbs has 20 points in 15 games, including nine goals, putting him among the league’s top scorers while leading the rookie race.
Nipawin’s Carson Park has recorded 17 points in 10 games, with his 13 assists leading the SJHL. Hawks teammate Austin Mori-Goodman has added 16 points in 12 games.
Humboldt’s Cody Farrell has eight goals and 15 points, while Yorkton’s Tyson Medernach has contributed 14 points in 12 appearances. On the blue line, Warman defenceman Theron Bensler has four goals and seven assists for 11 points in 14 games.
Melville’s Kaleb Page and Flin Flon’s Finn Werner will represent the SJHL in goal. Page enters with a 2.24 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage, while Werner has recorded two shutouts with the Bombers.
The SJHL’s hockey operations staff will also include coaches Cody Mapes of Weyburn and Carter Hansen of Humboldt, along with athletic trainer Jayden Vilafane and equipment manager Tyrel “Skip” Deeg.
The challenge gives the leagues’ emerging talent an opportunity to showcase their skills while pursuing future opportunities at the U SPORTS, Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and NCAA levels. Palliser Insurance returns as the event’s primary sponsor.
Both teams will practise Monday, November 2, with the SJHL scheduled for 5:45 to 6:45 p.m., followed by the MJHL from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday’s practices run from 10 to 11 a.m. for the SJHL and 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for the MJHL.
The first game goes Tuesday, November 3, at 7:45 p.m., with the rematch set for Wednesday, November 4, at 11:30 a.m.
Both games will be broadcast live on FloHockey.
