REGINA, Sask. — Regina drivers are facing higher prices at the pumps, with the average price of gasoline climbing six cents in a week to 180.93 cents a litre as of Oct. 25, according to GasBuddy.
Retired Regina resident Greg Vogelsang is concerned about working-class residents in the city, who already have to deal with the rising cost of food and other everyday expenses, making it increasingly difficult to keep up with the cost of living.
“If I was working, then I’d have to plan my trips a little more carefully to keep costs down,” said Vogelsang.
Betty Kwan, another Regina resident, was less than impressed with the latest prices.
“That’s too much!” said Kwan.
The increase in Regina was steeper than the national average, which rose just over a cent in the same week to 173.86 cents a litre.
Gas prices have also climbed elsewhere in the Prairies. Saskatoon's average reached 181.18 cents a litre, while Winnipeg's rose to 178.16 cents.
Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy's head of petroleum analysis, attributed the increases across the Prairies to refinery disruptions in the Great Lakes region, which have also affected prices across the Canada-U.S. border.
