ESTEVAN, Sask. — A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for four of the people who were arrested in a Weyburn drug bust earlier this year.
Cody Allen Beers, Jesse Rene Hoskins, Keigan James Jasper and Jeffery Anton Wagner had their matters in Estevan Provincial Court on Nov. 2. Beers made an in-custody appearance, while the others are out on conditions.
After some discussion of potential dates, the Crown and defence agreed to have the preliminary inquiry – which will determine if there is enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial – on Jan. 22, 2027, in Weyburn Provincial Court.
All four have elected to have a trial in Court of King's Bench with a judge and jury.
Background: The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) announced the arrest in late March. According to a WPS news release, at approximately 1:30 a.m. on March 25, the WPS Drug Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the patrol division, initiated a traffic stop on a truck as it entered the city limits on Highway 39.
In total, the WPS says it located 27.6 grams of fentanyl with a street value of approximately $11,000, 27.4 grams of cocaine with a street value of approximately $4,500, and 27.7 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of approximately $1,600.
Police also located cellphones, various weapons, cash, and drug-use and drug-trafficking paraphernalia.
Each of the four co-accused is facing three counts each of trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Wagner and Jasper are also each facing one count each of possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
A fifth person, Neressa Aspen, did not have her matters before the court on Nov. 2 and her preliminary hearing was not scheduled at that time.
