Sask RCMP seize 10 cases of illegal tobacco during traffic stop

MOOSE JAW, Sask. – The Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit charged a man from Moose Jaw after locating 10 cases of illegal cigarettes during a traffic stop.

On Oct. 29, the Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit was conducting traffic safety patrols on Highway 16.

At approximately 3 p.m., police officers stopped a van for a driver’s licence check.

During the traffic stop, officers located and seized 10 cases of illegal cigarettes (100,000 illegal cigarettes) inside the van.

The only occupant of the van, a man, was arrested on scene.

As a result of the police investigation, a 47-year-old man, from Moose Jaw, is charged with:

• one count, possession of tobacco products for the purpose of selling;
• one count, possession of unstamped tobacco;
• one count, possession of unstamped tobacco that is not black stock tobacco.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Lloydminster on Jan. 11.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit continue to investigate.
