MOOSE JAW, Sask. — The Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) is seeking the public’s help after receiving at least 12 reports of rocks being thrown at vehicles from two railway bridges over the last eight weeks, including six reports within the past week.
The incidents have damaged vehicles and prompted a warning from the MJPS that those responsible could face criminal mischief charges.
In a public advisory issued Nov. 4, police identified two locations: the train bridge in the 300 block of Fairford Street East and the train bridge over Manitoba Street East.
The police service is asking residents with information to come forward to help identify those involved and prevent further incidents.
“Unidentified youth have been seen fleeing the scene around the time of these incidents. The Moose Jaw Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible and preventing this trend from continuing,” the police advisory reads.
The advisory does not provide ages or descriptions of the youth seen leaving the locations. It also does not announce any arrests or charges in connection with the reports.
Police stressed that the behaviour carries consequences beyond damage to vehicles, warning of the potential for serious injuries.
“The Moose Jaw Police Service wants to remind residents that this is not a harmless prank; it is a crime,” the advisory states.
“Those responsible could face criminal mischief charges. These actions have caused damage to vehicles and could result in serious injuries.”
The notice does not specify how many reports relate to each bridge, provide dates and times for individual incidents, or estimate the cost of the vehicle damage. It does not indicate whether anyone has been injured.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Moose Jaw Police Service at 306-694-7600 or submit an online report.
