REGINA, Sask. —There will be a public unveiling of a new monument honouring Polish veterans and Polish individuals displaced by the First and Second World Wars.
Three members of the Polish community who survived the Second World War will take part in the unveiling and dedication. The monument is the first of its kind in Saskatchewan. The project began in March 2026 and has been entirely funded through community support.
The unveiling will be on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Field of Honour, Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815-Assiniboine Ave. E.
The program will include comments from relevant dignitaries and the committee responsible for the project’s success. There will be interview opportunities as well.
In the aftermath of the First World War and the Second World War, approximately 200 Polish veterans along with hundreds of Polish men, women and children displaced by war, made Saskatchewan their new home. The monument is intended to honour their sacrifice, resilience and the legacy of Polish heritage
and culture they’ve carried on to the next generation, enriching the cultural fabric of Saskatchewan, says the Polish Canadian Cultural Club.
A plaque reflecting names of those people accompanies the monument. For decades, the Polish Canadian Cultural Club has been collecting names, photographs and stories of these individuals. That work will continue after the monument is unveiled.
