REGINA — It is official. Applebee’s and IHOP will open their new dual-branded restaurant in Regina on March 17.
The new restaurant will bring together two of North America’s recognizable casual dining chains under one roof, a concept that is expanding across the continent through parent company Dine Brands Global.
IHOP, short for International House of Pancakes, was founded in 1958 and built its reputation on all-day breakfast, signature buttermilk pancakes and family-friendly dining. Applebee’s opened its first location in 1980 in Georgia and grew into a global neighbourhood grill known for burgers, ribs, appetizers and bar fare.
Now the two brands are being paired in a single full-service restaurant that allows guests to order from both menus at the same time. Pancakes and omelettes can share the table with wings and burgers. Breakfast for dinner is no longer a workaround. It is the concept.
The dual-brand model first launched in the United States in 2025 as part of an effort to maximize space, reduce costs and offer customers more variety in one stop. Regina’s location marks a significant step in bringing that strategy to Saskatchewan.
For Regina, the opening is notable. Applebee’s operated in the city before closing a few years ago. IHOP has never had a standalone location in Saskatchewan. The launch marks both a return and a debut.
Industry watchers say the combined format is designed to attract families, shift workers, late-night diners and brunch crowds alike, offering an expanded menu footprint that stretches from early morning to late evening.
