REGINA — Motorists in the Regina region can expect delays on several highways in the coming days.
The Ministry of Highways is moving a house and garage along several rural municipality roads and stretches of provincial Highways 1, 10, 22 and 6 starting Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. from the Lajord area to a location west of Strasbourg.
The load will measure about 60 feet in width, roughly 80 feet in length, and stand approximately 40 feet tall.
“This is a big job,” said Kerry Neufeld, of Neufeld Building Movers, who said 20 to 30 people will be overseeing the move.
“So there's going to be a lot of people working with this move to keep everyone safe,” he added.”
On Tuesday, the structures will move from near Lajord on Route 621, crossing both Highways 33 and 48 before reaching Highway 1.
On Wednesday, crews will travel west on Highway 1, continue north on Highway 10, and then proceed west along Grid Road 734 before stopping east of Highway 6.
The final day, Thursday, will see road closures.
“We are going to be closing the highway for a period of time, where the load will go through the [Qu'Appelle] Valley," said Neufeld.
The load will then head west onto Highway 220 before ending north of the area.
Travellers around these roads over the next few days are encouraged to check Highway Hotline, as the site will show the load’s current location.
“So those are really important to keep an eye on the [Highway Hotline and make sure you know where we're at and find an alternate route if you can,” said Neufeld.
Users can select the “over-dimensional loads” layer to see the load’s recent location.
The Ministry of Highways said 13 months of planning went into the move.
