Regina Pats' assistant head coach Ken Schneider provided an update on Maddox Schultz, who left the game in the third period against the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday.
"He's fine. He was at the rink this morning. He didn't skate this morning, but that had nothing to do with it," Schneider told The SportsCage.
"He's got some bumps and bruises, but it's nothing serious. He was at school this morning. I said, 'Oh, you got a little free press out of the AAA midget site and some unknown about his well-being.' But he's fine. He's 100 percent, he's ready to go.”
The Pats defeated the Blades 6-3, with Schultz scoring two goals and adding one assist, earning him first star honours.
"Our first period was not good at all. We haven't played a bad period like that for a while. We've gained some confidence, and so I think that played a part in our ability to rebound,” Schneider recalled.
“The goal right near the end of the period in the first by [Dayton] Deschamps bounced us back. Then we started to get our game going. I liked our guys and how we responded in the second period."
The Pats have won seven of their last nine games and are attempting to make the WHL playoffs for the first time since 2023. The Pats have two 15 year olds in Schultz and Liam Pue, Schneider likes how they are developing with the team.
"He and Liam have spent more time with us and I think that's helped them. It certainly helped them to practice with us pretty much every day. They learn a lot more about our systems because they're not going to do the same things with the Pats C as they're doing with us and so it's a lot on those young guys," Schneider explained.
"They're both great kids that want to learn, they want to get better, and they're both very competitive.”
This season, Schultz has played 28 games for the Pats, scoring 10 goals and registering 13 assists. Both Schultz and his fellow rookie, Pue, are only allowed to play 34 regular season games due to the Western Development Model. Pue has played 30 games for the Pats, scoring six goals and recording 10 assists.
Next on the Pats schedule, Regina hosts the Medicine Hat Tigers at the Brandt Centre on Tuesday. The Pats have already faced the Tigers twice this season and were defeated both times. The first time was 5-2 on September 20, 2025 and the other was 4-3 in overtime on November 14, 2025.
"We'll need to care about the puck and not turning the puck over. We know we're going to play in our own end a fair bit. That's the reality of the team that we're playing. I coded a game the other night that they played Calgary and Calgary hardly touched the puck. We're going to play a real fast team,“ Schneider said.
"We need to play their sticks on the ice, we need to be in the right places. When they risk, that's when we need to take advantage, turn the puck over and get up ice quickly."
Dante De Caria hosts the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. with puck drop at 7 p.m. You can catch all the action on 620 CKRM.
