SASKATOON — A 40-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a stolen SUV fled from police, struck several parked vehicles, and ended with a foot chase on Saskatoon’s east side Saturday night.
Police were called shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 to the 2100 block of 8th Street East for a report that a black Nissan Rogue had just been stolen. The Saskatoon Police Service Air Support Unit located the vehicle a short time later on Oliver Crescent. When officers attempted to stop it, the driver fled at a high speed.
For about 30 minutes, the Air Support Unit monitored the Rogue as it travelled through neighbourhood streets, driving erratically and hitting several parked, unoccupied vehicles. The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the 1300 block of 8th Street East, where the driver ran from the scene.
With help from the SPS canine unit, officers located and arrested the suspect. He was taken hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
He is charged with theft of a vehicle, driving while prohibited, failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, impaired driving, and possession of methamphetamine. He was also arrested on outstanding warrants.
