REGINA — There are several notable items on the March 4 executive committee meeting.
These items include:
Traffic by-law changes:
As part of the 2026 budget process, the city is set to implement an update to its traffic by-law to remove coin options for parking meters.
The change took effect on March 1. However, Mayor Chad Bachynski said he plans to speak with city administration about developing a strategy to address residents’ concerns.
Other proposed amendments to the bylaw could include a $10 increase to parking ticket fines and setting parking meter rates at 50 cents per hour.
Water/Wastewater Master Plan update:
The City of Regina has provided an update on both its Water Master Plan (WMP) and Wastewater Master Plan (WWMP).
Both plans were implemented in the late 2010s and ensure policies support the city’s growth over the next 25 years.
Each plan outlines actions to achieve intended water service delivery outcomes.
Recent projects completed under the master plans include finishing construction of the Water Network Expansion Project, replacing more than 1,000 residential lead service connections since 2019, and boosting wastewater capacity by cleaning and inspecting sewer pipes.
New joint-use elementary school:
Regina Public Schools and Regina Catholic Schools are preparing to finalize a location for a new joint elementary school.
The proposed site sits in “the Towns North,” located off of Green Stone Road and Arens Road.
The Government of Saskatchewan and the City of Regina have agreed on terms for the new site, including the province contributing $4.55 million towards the servicing of the parcel.
City administration now needs councillors to approve the terms of the agreement.
All approved motions from this meeting will be finalized at the March 11 city council meeting.
