SUCKER RIVER – Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit is investigating a homicide in Sucker River.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) is asking for the public’s assistance following a homicide in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of Sucker River.
On March 4 at approximately 12:20 a.m., La Ronge RCMP received a report of an injured person at a residence in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of Sucker River.
Officers responded immediately and located an injured man. They began providing medical attention. EMS arrived and transported the man to hospital, where he was later declared dead. Saskatchewan RCMP’s HIU took charge of the investigation.
The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Stephen McKenzie, from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. His family has been notified and Victim Services made available to them.
Investigators, with assistance from the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, have determined that McKenzie's death is a homicide. Saskatchewan RCMP’s HIU continues to investigate and are actively working to identify and locate the suspect(s) involved.
Investigators are releasing McKenzie's name as they are asking anyone with information about his death to report it to La Ronge RCMP by calling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
As this is an active and ongoing investigation, police say they are currently unable to provide further details. Updates will be provided when possible. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, the police will notify the public.
