CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 35 calls from Feb. 26 to March 5, some of which included:
- three 911 Act calls,
- two Coroners Act calls,
- one failure to comply with probation order,
- four false alarms,
- three frauds under $5,000,
- three Mental Health Act calls,
- one municipal bylaw,
- two uttering threats,
- one sexual assault,
- one suspicious person,
- one theft under $5,000,
- one traffic collision,
- 11 traffic offences, and
- two wellbeing checks.
Vehicle rollover, driver not licensed
On Feb. 26, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover south of Canora on Highway 9. Police went to the scene and observed a black Dodge Ram on its side with damage to the roof and passenger side of the vehicle. The driver was charged for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.
Scammer allegedly makes threats
A man called the Canora RCMP on March 2 reporting that he received a phone call from a suspected scammer. During the phone call the scammer started to threaten the caller. Investigation is ongoing.
Arrest for sexual assault
The Canora RCMP investigated a sexual assault that occurred in Canora on March 3. A 55-year-old man from Canora was arrested and charged with sexual assault and failing to comply with a probation order. The man was released on a release order with conditions of a curfew and to have not contact with the victim.
Scammer claims to be grandson
On March 4, a woman called the Canora RCMP reporting she was called by scammers pretending to be her grandson. The scammer told the woman that he needed money for bail and asked for payment in gift certificates. No money was sent.
