REGINA — Saskatchewan's Highway Hotline says the oversized log house and garage that's been moving through the Regina area made it to its weekend stop between Highway 20 and Earl Grey Friday.
Weather permitting, the crew will head into the homestretch on Monday, March 9, to a location west of Strasbourg, states the Highway Hotline's Facebook page.
The oversized log house and garage has been moving along several rural municipality roads and stretches of provincial Highways 1, 10, 22 and 6, starting Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. from the Lajord area
On Tuesday, the haul started moving north of Lajord on Route 621, with the goal of crossing both Highways 33 and 48 before reaching Highway 1.
The haul then continued west of Highway 1 north on Highway 10, and then proceeded west along Grid Road 734 on Wednesday.
Thursday, the haul was to continue up Highway 6 through the Qu'Appelle Valley and head west along Highway 220 toward reaching its destination, but the road conditions caused the day's move to be cancelled.
The haul continued its trek on Friday, ending just shy of its goal.
The Ministry of Highways said 13 months of planning went into the move.
“This is a big job,” said Kerry Neufeld, of Neufeld Building Movers, who said 20 to 30 people are overseeing the move.
Travellers around these roads were encouraged to check Highway Hotline, as the site would show the load’s most recent location when users select “over-dimensional loads” layer.
