The Melville Millionaires became the seventh team to clinch a playoff spot in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League on Saturday afternoon, edging the Estevan Bruins 3–2 in overtime at the CN Community Centre.
Mils captain Boston Harkness scored the winner just 17 seconds into overtime after Jack Drake tied the game for Melville eight minutes into the third period.
Keil Schmalz also scored for the Millionaires, while Cash Olson and Ethan Andrews replied for the Bruins.
Matthew Spencer-Dahl turned aside 32 of 34 shots to earn the win for Melville, while Dylan Adams made 29 saves in the overtime loss for Estevan.
The Millionaires return to action Tuesday night in Weyburn against the Weyburn Red Wings. The Bruins, who sit three points ahead of the Humboldt Broncos for the final playoff spot, are back on the ice Wednesday in Melfort.
Elsewhere Saturday, the Flin Flon Bombers locked up first place in the league with a 4–0 shutout of the Battlefords North Stars.
Charlie Tritt stopped all 34 shots he faced for his fifth shutout of the season, while Reid Arberry led the offence with two goals and an assist.
Xavier Fauchon and Jack Martin also scored as the Bombers picked up their 25th home victory of the season.
