The leader of Saskatchewan’s opposition has taken Premier Scott Moe to task over his letter to the Prime Minister.
Provincial NDP Leader Ryan Meili feels the premier showed a lack of leadership in his call for the Trudeau minority government to scrap the carbon tax, help get Saskatchewan products to market and make equalization payments more fair and equitable.
Meili stresses the letter does nothing to solve those problems or others like classroom overcrowding and emergency room wait times.
He says Moe’s confrontational approach is divisive while stoking sentiments of separatism adding the premier conveniently stayed quiet on equalization during the federal election campaign.
The leader of Saskatchewan’s opposition claims an NDP government would be strong advocates on behalf of the province while working with the federal government to find solutions.
Moe made the contents of his letter public after Prime Minister Trudeau said he has heard the frustration from the people of Alberta and Saskatchewan and wants to be there to support the western provinces.
The Premier says repealing the carbon tax and addressing the equalization and market issues would be ways to support the west.
