SHOAL LAKE CREE NATION — Carrot River RCMP have charged a man after a shooting on Shoal Lake Cree Nation.
Carrot River RCMP arrested and charged a man with aggravated assault and forcible confinement in relation to an incident that occurred on Shoal Lake Cree Nation.
On March 10 at approximately 5:15 a.m., Carrot River RCMP received a report of a shooting on Shoal Lake Cree Nation.
Officers responded immediately, along with local EMS, and located an injured male in a vehicle on Highway 55. The injured man was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as serious.
The investigation determined an altercation occurred between two men at a residence on Shoal Lake Cree Nation. During the altercation, a firearm was discharged and one of the men was injured.
The injured man exited the residence. The other man, who was still inside the residence, prevented a female from leaving the residence. He later left the residence. The female did not report physical injuries to police.
As a result of the continued investigation, later that same day, officers arrested a man on Shoal Lake Cree Nation. During the investigation, officers also located and seized a sawed-off firearm.
A 34-year-old man from Red Earth Cree Nation is charged with:
- one count of aggravated assault;
- one count of forcible confinement;
- one count of possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized;
- one count of unsafe storage of firearms;
- one count of discharging a firearm with intent;
- one count of assault with a weapon;
- one count of possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without licence or registration;
- one count of weapons possession contrary to an order; and
- one count of pointing a firearm.
The accused appeared in court in Nipawin on March 11.
Carrot River RCMP continue to investigate.
