REGINA — A Regina man charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death was not in court Thursday, with only his lawyer present as the matter was adjourned to a future date. The next scheduled appearance for Biniam Emaha is now set for April 2 at 9:30 a.m. in the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan in Regina.
Emaha is facing a single count of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death, a Criminal Code offence that applies when a person operates a vehicle in a manner that is dangerous to the public and, as a result, causes the death of another person. Dangerous operation causing death is a Criminal Code offence that can carry significant prison time.
The charge stems from a fatal collision in Regina’s North Central neighbourhood in October 2025 in which 19-year-old Marvellous Ugochukwu Chijindu was killed when a vehicle police say was driven by Emaha struck a bus shelter. Police have publicly confirmed that the investigation led to the charge, although court records have provided few further details about the circumstances of the collision.
At Thursday’s hearing, Emaha’s lawyer appeared without the accused and requested an adjournment. The court granted that request and set the next appearance for early April, giving Crown prosecutors and defence counsel additional time to prepare their positions. No additional information was provided in court regarding evidence, witness matters, or potential legal arguments at this stage.
Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death is among the most serious offences involving a vehicle outside of impaired or criminal negligence charges, and it requires proof that the driver’s conduct was objectively dangerous and directly resulted in another person’s death.
